Getting lost in a good book has always been one of my favorite pastimes. Growing up in the Bahamas, I was often by the pool or beach reading. However, it was quite uncomfortable. Holding back 100+ pages with my pinkie and thumb meant aching fingers and broken book spines. It frustrated me that I was unable to keep reading when I got on the treadmill or when having my lunch. I thought there must be a product out there that would aid in keeping unwieldy paperback pages pinned back and allow my hand, and me, to relax, no matter what I was doing.

I shopped around but never found a product that did exactly the job I wanted. A few days later whilst lying in the bath and thinking how I would like to be reading at the same time, an idea sprang to mind. That evening, with the help of a piece of wood, a wire coat hanger and a bicycle handle, I made my first book holder prototype!

Shortly after, I traveled to Montreal to meet an internationally renowned, award-winning industrial designer, Michel Dallaire. I showed him my idea and we worked together to create a product that actually served not only as a book holder, but as a bookstand and a bookmark as well. We made it very light-weight, travel and user-friendly, and able to attach to the side of a book rather than being an extra thing to carry. I named it Paperbax.
